Launch Asherons Call Dark Majesty

RedFists's Interview

Q. What Plugins have you developed and what do they do?
A.
Here the list of Plugins I have developed.
Group Hunter - Allows the "leader" to select targets and have "followers" choose the same target. Great assist tool for fellowships.
Key Master - Carves keys and hearts and stores keys optimally on keyrings. A huge time-saver and avoids a LOT of keyboard/mouse work.
Grats - The world's friendliest Plugin. Allows to respond to events (fellowship joins, Lady Aerfalle kills, etc.).
Recaller - A simple little UI with buttons for common recall commands as well as keyboard shortcuts.
Riddler - Supplies the answer to some of AC's riddles such as which herb relates to the Temple Guardian's questions for the skill quests.
Exchange - Generic Plugin to handle giving items to an NPC (such as Yellow Jewels) and stack and/or drop their results. Works for gambling too.

Plus a few private ones. ;-)

Q. What was/is the 1st Plugin/3rd party Application you programmed?
A.
The first Plugin I wrote was Group Hunter. I asked the Thistledown VN board what they wanted and wrote a Plugin to solve the first need.

Q. What inspired you to write it/them?
A.
I write code - that's what I do. Fundamentally though, I write plugins to avoid the mundane/repetitive annoyances with AC thus increasing the FUN.

Q. What was the biggest obstacle you had/have to overcome in writing your Plugins/3rd party Applications?
A.
I'm a seasoned programmer - writing code is 2nd nature. The biggest obstacle was just finding documentation specific to Decal interfaces.

Q. What is your favorite language to program in?
A.
My Favorite language is C++.

Q. How long have you been programming in general/with Decal Applications?
A.
I've been programming professionally since 1987. I started writing code for grins in 1977 (when I was 10). My first language was assembly.

Q. Have you felt the overall contribution of the decal programming community has been positive on the game?
A.
I'd say it's been extremely positive. Frankly, without decal I doubt AC would be alive toady. I know I wouldn't still be playing without it.

Q. What Plugins/3rd party Application other than your own, do you use?
A.
I use quite a few;
RoboChef is just cool.
Universal Salvaging Tool (UST) is another time-saver.
ElTank is great for buffing, etc.
Oracle of Dereth is a must have.

Q. What can we look forward to in upcoming versions of your Plugins/3rd party Applications?
A. Whatever the community wants (and is doable/reasonable). Just visit www.redfist.net and post in my "Plugin Requests" forum.

Q. Do you still play AC and if so what Server/s do you frequent?
A.
I still play, although not nearly as often as before. The last 4 months have been very sparse for me. I started on Thistledown and have remained there ever since.

Q. What is your favorite Plugin/3rd party Application that you have written?
A.
I think my favorite Plugin is Key Master. I hunted Singuarlity Keys for long time (yeah, just like everyone else). Carving 30-50 keys by hand and finding the correct keyrings, etc. was just TOO ANNOYING. Automating the boring parts leaves more room for the fun parts. :-)
