Q. What Plugins have you developed and what do
they do?
A.
Here they all are:
ChatCrayon (colors chat,
plays sounds on messages, filters message types),
TieTracker (keeps track
of the portal/lifestone ties each character has),
LootTracker (stores
aggregated statistics about the loot profiles for each monster),
FellowLink (provides
fellowship members with tools to make questing easier),
FellowLinkLite (same, but
without the HUD's),
ScrollReader (for
reading, passing, buying, and general scroll management),
BribeTC
(now
outdated),
WeaponTinkCalc
(now
outdated).
Q. What was/is the 1st
Plugin/3rd party Application
you programmed?
A.
ChatCrayon
was my first Plugin,
if you don't count my "Hello
World" one, that is.
Q.
What inspired you to write it/them?
A.
It started when a
friend of mine complained that his Allegiance chat color was the same as
one of his other chat messages. I thought to myself "I could learn to do
that, that's a pretty simple request." Then, as I began writing it, I
kept adding more message types until it handled most all of them.
Q.
What was the biggest obstacle you
had/have to overcome in writing your Plugins/3rd party Applications?
A.
The biggest obstacle was learning
Visual Basic (I have a background in Basic, QuickBasic, Turbo Pascal,
Borland C++, and most recently, PHP), and learning the Decal Plugin
structure from the limited information available. I jumped right into
Plugins directly, which is NOT recommended.
Q.
What is your favorite language to
program in?
A.
Visual Basic 6.
Q.
How long have you been programming in
general/with Decal Applications?
A.
I've been
programming for a little over 20 years. I started doing Plugins a year
ago.
Q.
Have you felt the overall contribution
of the decal programming community has been positive on the game?
A.
I absolutely believe that Decal and
Decal Plugins have benefited the game tremendously. I feel that the game
would have died out completely at least a couple years ago without it. I
mean, how many times can you really make arrows using back-and-forth
hotkeys before you run screaming against a wall?
Q.
What Plugins/3rd party Application other
than your own, do you use?
A.
Heres what I use;
Infinity,
Bandit Sight/2,
Universal
Salvaging Tool
(UST),
Stoic,
Quest Timer,
DHS
(Decal Hotkey System),
RoboChef,
Sort It!
and
AC
Trade.
Q. What can we look forward to in upcoming versions of your
Plugins/3rd party Applications?
A.
I'm really not at
liberty to say. Secret squirrel stuff, and all that :-)
Q. Do you still play AC and if so what Server/s do you frequent?
A.
I still have an
active account on
Solclaim, but unfortunately I have been drawn into WoW
of late. Jury's still out on what may happen once
Turbine releases the
"Throne of Destiny" (ToD) expansion pack.
Q. What is your favorite Plugin/3rd party Application that you have
written?
A.
It's a three-way
tie:
ChatCrayon,
LootTracker, and
FellowLink.
ChatCrayon because it was
my first, and became so useful to me;
FellowLink because it
makes questing a less stressful thing, and no one can be accidentally
left behind and;
LootTracker because it
was absolutely the most difficult one to pull off. That one was a
Houdini octopus, trust me. |
